Mymenshing Blast Details

At least 17 persons, including two women, were killed and 200 others were injured in powerful bomb blasts in four cinema halls in the district town on Saturday, December 6 2002. Some dead bodies were so badly mutilated that it was difficult to identify them. The dead are identified as Jahangir 18, Tapan 22, Mahmuda 20, Anwar 25, Tofazzal 18, Hazrat Ali 28, Sajib 18, Imran 25, Suman 14, Shafiqul 18, Dilip 20, Mofazzal 21, Kamal 15, Humayun 24, Nikhil Sarkar 35, a six-year-old girl Nila, and an unidentified young man aged about 25. Hospital sources said that all the 17 persons died owing to heavy splinter hits.
Three more explosions took place, one after another, in three other cinema halls when local people and Fire Brigade personnel were busy rescuing the victims of Ajanta Hall and were rushing them to the MMCH.
The second bomb exploded on the first floor of Chhayabani Cinema Hall at about 6:45pm followed by blasts at Purabi and Aloka cinema halls. These three bombs exploded in a span of half an hour. All the four halls were overcrowded with viewers, as it was the second day of the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.
