Amio Bolte Chai is a youth based project initiated by Drishtipat Canada. This is an exciting opportunity for all of us to come together as a community and work towards building a better future for Bangladesh! If you want to help out with Amio Bolte Chai, please contact us!
For details on our first workshop in Sylhet, please visit the Amio Bolte Chai - Sylhet page!!!
This project has 3 pertinent goals:
- To encourage young people to speak out about their thoughts and ideas regarding human rights violations and social injustice.
-
To provide young people with a platform to speak out and be heard, thereby creating future leaders.
-
To provide positive examples of individuals/groups who have taken the initiative to create social change by improving the standard of living (for themselves and others), thereby inspiring young people to step up, take responsibility, and make a difference for their community and Bangladesh in general.
These goals will be achieved through the means of holding a day long workshop and open discussion session with young adults between the ages of 16 to 20. Each individual attending the workshop will be provided with basic training to identify human rights abuse and social injustice issues, and subsequently react in a constructive way.
Each workshop will be a day long event, and will consist of the four main segments described below.
- Human Rights and Social Injustice awareness
This segment focuses on why the participants should care about human rights violations and social injustice. The goal is to get the participants thinking about these issues, and how they affect people’s lives.
-
Leadership and Individual responsibility in taking initiatives to make a
difference
This segment will focus on leadership skills and initiating change. A common practice in Bangladesh is to talk about problems, but never taking the initiative to find a solution. The goal of this workshop is to create a set of future leaders who will not only identify problems, but also take the initiative to find solutions. This segment will involve activities that will motivate the participants to think in a constructive and realistic way, eventually providing them with the skills required to lead “social movements”.
-
Positive examples of self starters and how to get involved
The goal of this segment is to provide positive examples of groups or individuals who have taken initiative and created proactive change for people in Bangladesh. The presentation will provide the participants with ideas about how they can each initiate their own projects/plans, or get involved with existing projects. This segment will feature a rising organization called 1 Degree Initiative. This Dhaka based organization consisting of a few very admirable teenagers have gone against all odds to lead an organization that is currently working with underpriviliged citizens in various realms of life. To find out more about this group, please email 1 Degree Initiative!
-
Open discussion session
This is the main segment of the day. This open table discussion moderated by a facilitator, will allow each participant to express their thoughts and ideas following the workshops and presentations. The goal is to provide the participants with a platform to speak out about their thoughts about human rights violations and social injustice. They will be encouraged to talk about what they think they can do to change things in Bangladesh if they were given the opportunity. The facilitator will direct the discussion towards realistic ideas of change and improvement in the country. Emphasis will be given towards local issues.
These workshops will be held in cities throughout Bangladesh. Cities will be chosen based on the level of interest generated in each city, as well as the availability of enough volunteers willing to help out.
