Around 4000 police and armed police battalion stormed through 12 villages around Kansat in the middle of the night ransacking houses, looting, indiscriminately beating up women, children, and elderlies, and finally firing upon fleeing villagers killing at least 6 people, including a 10 year old boy, and injuring more than 300. Hundreds of rounds of bullets, rubber bullets, and tear gas canisters were fired on the people. They had also arrested 29 people on the sixth day of indefinite hartal called by PBUSP.
3rd year anniversary of Kansat killing today.
This website by drishtipat volunteers documents the people’s uprising in Kansat.

Why is Drishtipat silent about the latest issues like bigots creating rampage ? Why are u silent about the govt’s treatment with Sheikh Hasina ? What about the lowering verdicts of the high court on BNP leadership determination ? What about the constant price hike ?
Once DP created a high standard of itself by taking the just stand against anything bad, why don’t u follow your own standard now ?

Maybe because it focuses on violations of human rights and does not stand against “anything bad”?

FZ, we have written on price hikes, and there has been a series of political posts - particularly on issues like NSC that the mainstream media can’t/won’t touch. Hasina’s mistreatment or the ‘verdicts’ on BNP leadership - these are serious issues, sure. But there are many people, respective party activists and supporters to begin with, who are raising those issues. There aren’t that many people talking about single women in Dhaka, or the rights of CHT folks, or the situation in Bhola, or a critical discussion about Dr Yunus - some subjects raised in recent posts. And we will soon have a post on the lessons from the ‘Nari Niti’ developments.
Meanwhile, we’re posting an ‘open thread’ for the readers.

Thanks for remembering Kansat. Kansat reminds people power is above the rest of powers.
I also like to take this opportunity to remind ourselves that we should not limit ourselves in speaking about Kansats that happened three years ago. Kansats are heppening almost daily lately. Just that day there were riots in Fatulla. Just because certain media decided not to make these big issues, these issues not less important.
