Reviled by many Pakistanis for temporarily suspending the constitution last fall and throwing hundreds or possibly thousands of lawyers and political opponents in jail, Pervez Musharraf nevertheless felt free to offer human-rights advice to a fellow regional leader in Davos.

“Carry on doing it no matter what anyone thinks, irrespective of human rights.” Yuck.
Talk about the blind leading the blind.

There’s more than just human rights abuses that appalling, it is setting a terrible example — further explained in my Times of India article here: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/msid-2706105,prtpage-1.cms

Maneeza,
What is the basis of your comment that 1/11 ‘has introduced into the army the same corruption rampant in Bangladeshi politics’???

Arif (#5): This news settles the debate on “Loss of Space for Healthy Debates.” Just when we really needed it — can’t help wondering if the DGFI moles here may have been somehow taking a hint from our discussions…

From the Times of India article you referred.
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/msid-2706105,prtpage-1.cms
first line:
“Last week marked the first anniversary of the momentous events of January 11, 2007, when Bangladesh’s democratically elected government was replaced by military rule. ”
I don’t think there was a democratically elected govt. when this army-led govt. took over. There was a caretaker govt. This changes the context of the whole article. Otherwise, it could be misleading.
When criticizing this govt (which you are entitled to), we also need to take into account that most of the people welcomed this govt. (no data but hopefully everyone will agree). How they failed or succeeded is a matter of discussion.

human intelligence abuse is also a pitiful crime. Dr F should not depend of human rightist partialities and colonial concept when making decisions. Mushy was stating the obvious, only a brown sahib doesnt get that much.
and somehow suddelny someone is bothered about people getting killed in mosques. gosh.

The picture of Bangladesh’s unelected self proclaimed head along with dictator Musharraf and puppet Karzai is a slap on the face of Bangladesh’s image as a democratic country. I am glad that none of our elected PMs had such dishonour to degrace our nation at Davos.
I am sure neither Hasina nor Khaleda would have sat next to two of the most controversial tainted figures in the world. It seems that Yunus who flew in from Seattle was the mastermind behind this stage show to please his bosses.

#13 Sure, Hasina & Khaleda just make alliances with war criminals and islamic extremists. I guess thats fine when you wear the cloak of democracy.
This is not meant to defend Dr. Fakr.
