Bangladesh: Changebangladesh.org launches urgent appeal for two communities Bategi and Pathorghata badly affected by cyclone Sidr on Nov 15, 2007.
17 November 2007
Sidr hit the coast of Bangladesh night before last (15 November) at 6:45 PM local time and reached the capital Dhaka in the early hours of this morning.
235,000 people directly affected by the devastating storm. And many more without power and interrupted infrastructure. 1070 dead by Saturday morning and more people we don’t know about. Change Bangladesh(CBd) is appealing for $3000 to provide emergency relief and shelter to the victims spending night under the open sky, braving the elements with very little food. Two communities that we know of are in dire need of assistance. They are Bategi and Pathorghata.
Bategi – after rapid assessment of the damage by our local partner Gono GObeshona(GG) the executive director informed us via SMS, “people immediately need food and water. Temporary shelter for sleeping is also a critical need since most of the mud houses are not washed away or collapsed.” This community lost many livestock like cows, goats and feed for these animals.
Patorghata- the need is similar here : food, water , shelter and livestock.
For further information, or to set up interviews, please contact:

Is there any advantage of donating to the government fund rather the Red cross or other recognized organization. Can someone give an assessment?
