The Daily Star reports,
”Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina picked up by law enforcers
Law enforcers early today picked up former prime minister and Awami League(AL) chief Sheikh Hasina from her Sudha Sadan residence. Several hundred law enforcers had cordoned former Prime Minister and Awami League Chief Sheikh Hasina’s house in a pre-dawn raid. They entered the premises of her Dhanmondi road number 5 residence, Sudha Sadan, at around 4:50am and left the premises with AL chief around 7:30am…” A follow up report says, “AL chief Sheikh Hasina sent to jail in an extortion case…”
”AL activists were reported to be in rampage throughout the country…”
BDNews24.com has a bit more details, (thanks bdfcat for the news. I am having a difficult time entering bdnews24.com)..
Hasina arrested, taken to court Security forces led away Sheikh Hasina at 7:31am Monday to Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court for Dhaka after surrounding the Sudha Sadan home of the feisty Awami League president for three hours from 4:30am.Hasina was taken to the court of magistrate Kamrunnahar in an extortion case that involves about Tk 3 crore, filed by Azam J Chowdhury, managing director of Eastcoast Trading Limited, on June 13.Awami League leader Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim was also accused in the same case filed with Gulshan Police Station.
“Don’t cry,” Hasin said to a crying lawyer after she arrived at the court. “They want to stop me taking part in elections,” the 59-year-old leader told lawyers.
Law adviser Mainul Hosein told bdnews24.com that Hasina had been arrested on clear charges.”I heard about her arrest. She has been facing a number of cases. Awami League leaders and activists also backed the cases against her.”
Awami League presidium member Motia Chowdhury told bdnews24.com: “Nobody will accept it. It’s political harassment.”
When she was being led away in a dark-blue Nissan Patrol car with tinted glass, the former prime minister waved at people and smiled.
Earlier, at 4:53am she told bdnews24.com by phone, “I did no wrong, neither did my family.” As Hasina was speaking to bdnews24.com, there was a sound of knocking on the door and somebody was heard saying, “They’ve come and want to get in.” Hasina told him: “Tell them I’m coming after saying my prayers.”
RAB and police sealed off all the entry points to the home and cordoned it while the policewomen went in. Several hundred RAB and police officers arrived at the Dhanmondi road no. 5 home at 4:30am, accompanied by plainclothes officers carrying ropes and pliers.
Some 50 vehicles including 15 buses, two prison vans and three ambulances waited outside the home in the wee hours amid driving rains.
“The country witnessed good governance in the five years of AL rule. Prices of essentials were under control,” the former prime minister told bdnews24.com Senior Political Correspondent Suman Mahbub. The 59-year-old leader said she had ruled the country with honesty. “I can personally say that no-one in my family nor I was involved in extortion.
In the last five years, the BNP-led government looked for our mistakes, but couldn’t find any.” “Why should we be harassed? This government is the outcome of our movement. Why would the rights of the people be revoked?” the AL chief said.
Unheard Voices is not a news service, rather it is a blog which is meant to be a forum of expressing people’s opinions and perspectives. We will not do justice to our readers if we have ended just with the news. Personally I believe that I owe my readers an opinion about this matter.
It is just one month less than 32 years since all but one members of Sheikh Hasina’s extended family were murdered brutally by some military officers. The vocal noisy part of the general public cheered the brutal murder during that time. And 32 years later today we know that whatever overwhelming support was there for the August 15th mass murder, 15th August murders were by no means the right thing to do. Similarly our current government may enjoy overwhelming support and this arrest may be supported by the vocal majority. But, in my opinion, this arrest was a little beyond the reasonable scope of this government. We expected a free fair election and restructuring and empowering the constitutionl bodies of the government. We do not expect the CTG to dictate us who should be our leader and who should not be. There should have been some respect on people’s opinion and capability to choose their own leader.
Sheikh Hasina apparently has been arested on corruption charges. This government is based on a mandate of dealing with corruption. But government’s credibility in handling of corruption has already been seriously tainted by its leniency on the corruption of the turncoat politicians who are reportedly working in collusion with the government to split the major political parties.
I do not know whether this is the beginning of the end but I do know this is the end of the honeymoon period of this caretaker government.

I am not shocked at all. I was actually counting days for this event. This was very much expected by the government which is coached by the Pakistani ghosts, dictated by the military and supported by the Jamati’s.
The military dictated government will never organize a free and fair election. Even if they organize an election it will be crooked like any other elections staged by the previous military regimes.
This is definitely end of their honeymoon period and waiting for the time when people in Bangladesh will have enough courage to speak against autocracy.

Khaleda is also caught, on her way to court, yet to confirm this news.
July 16th, 2007 at 6:23 am
Looks and smells like 1975, just dressed up more for the information age. The rhetoric and the actions are all too familiar.
The military have now gone for the jugular. There is little chance now that they will be able to turn back from this. Expect a long stay.

I knew it!! M&M (Moeen & Masud) finally got courage to arrest Hasina. People, wake up! Who said that this govt is a plain caretaker govt? Currently, Bangladesh is under Martial law. CTG is just a “Mukhosh”. They will do many more acts that a typical CTG would not do. Reform is taking place, but depends whose view of reform it is. M&M failed to control price hike…they never had intention to do anything for general people. Now Moeen is speaking openly about changing constitution. Certainly, any citizen can speak about the country, but not wearing Combat uniform.
The whole saga reminds us about game played by Ershad.
God knows, when democracy will return again…how much blood will be sacrificed again to stop the new “Ershad”.

The CTG should now arrest, without any unacceptable further delay, the other demigoddess of Bangladesh politics, along with the so-called ‘reformists’ and the other leading kleptocrats; and facilitate their fair trial. This is a golden opportunity to expedite the cleansing of the 36 year-old ‘janjal’, and this govt. can give birth to an unprecedented revolution in the process!

Finally aonther crooked leader was arrested who smuggeled cores of foreign currency to USA building up a huge shopping mall in Florida. Getting rid of this kind of leader is a blessing for a country.

Hasina - Khaleda must stand trial for their crimes. Plain and simple! Those who see conspiracy in their detention were happy when the CTG arrested Benahuda, Falu, Salman F..and now they are crying foul because these two corrupted ladies are detained. Who blames whom for conspiracy! In fact, I am suspicious that conspiracy is going on against the current CTG who are trying hard to cleanse the BD politics of these rotten entities. And keyboard happy die hard hasina/khaleda supporters are coining plethora of colored stories against CTG to glorify their idols who have proven to be two greatest curses for our nation.

I deeply aggreived. General Moyeen is on his track being supported by moinul hosein and Gen Matin. Nothing unusual. This is the cahracter of the Military jantas. This Gen Moyeen is speaking in seminars before the presence of Sayeediies and with other rajakars. What a patriotism. The only peoples voice for the time being is thawrted with the capture of hasina. I think the present government has gone a step ahead to further their blue print of capturing the power perpetually.
Alas!!!!! and shame !!!! In the liberated land of Bangabandhu, his daughter is captured in the Pakistani Janta style, for unfounded reasons.
People do cry. ….people do cry……..

July 16th, 2007 at 10:43 am
In a true military fashion, the junta has grossly underestimated the strength of a potential political uprising of their own making. They are hell bent on making Hasina the undisputed national leader who will deliver the country from the military. Leaders are created when they are forced to rise up to the occasion. Hasina was waiting for this moment for a very long time.
July 16th, 2007 at 11:07 am
CTG will not be arresting KZ. There is huge difference between their approach towards the two former prime ministers. Not to sound biased, but the CTG does not have the balls to put both the leaders in jail together. It was always one or the other. (i.e minus one ). There is absolutely no possibility that KZ will ow be arrested. All rumor mills spreading news of KZ’s arrest should die down in a day or two.

When and how you would believe that Hasina or Khaleda commited any crime against our people. I wonder even they are convicted in a court either by this regime or other many will find something to say against.
If you can not accept anything against them before they are convicted, what is your proof and perception of crime or loot against Falu, Jalil or Tarique.
When Bango Bhobon, Gono Bhabon were offered (?) to Hasina there were lot of support, our mind set seems very hard to change.
I like both of them (H & K) to be tried but fairly, doesn’t matter how skeptic I am about the validity, legality or their objective of the current regime.
We have already paid dearly for the nepotism and inefficiency of these leaders. Don’t you think we should endeavor to make an end to their corrupt influence.
I am also skeptic that whether they really want to try Hasina for the reasons many are thinking.
July 16th, 2007 at 11:36 am
Is this the beginning of the end?
I want to see trials of all crooked leaders including people who are wearing “reformist” hejab to cover their crime.
The question remain, where are the corrupt secretaries and army officials who made millions using these crooked leaders?
When they will be tried?
July 16th, 2007 at 11:39 am
Farhad Bhai , This is how a leader born. but basically I am writing whole thing with a heavy heart. To be very honest I was really relief while 1/11 was happened. But To be very
honest while I see names like Barrister Mainul, Abdul Matin in the adviser list , I could see the black cloud on the corner of the sky. Gradually Anti corruption drive starts. There is no proper check and balance.people might be happy some real corrupt leaders have been taken but there is no due process and If there is no due process , It is very easy to establish any
thing.
besides this anti corruption we also watched
Kangaroo Court, Funny Verdict, no freedom of press, outdated telecom policy.
Basically on the name of anti corruption we started to neglect all public issues plus human rights.
Our Jack of all trades adviser Mainul Hossain and Abdul Matin are simply giving
just opposite statement every day. As a result what happened we all were totally detached from the main stream politics and every day we are just getting some confused
information. It seems Our CTG is running through a memorandum of article and they have signed a Non Disclosing agreement (NDA)
with the people of country and we have no right to know the yearly turn over , profit and loss.
our current Bangladesh is nothing but a bank craps company.

Down with the corruption. We don’t want to see again BD in the most corrupted countries list(number 1? 5 times?. Countries leaders are also responsible for the corruptions that have been taken place. Their saliency means ok to do that

Hi Folks,
“KEMON BUJTACEN?”
The above legendary phrase was very frequently used to be utttered by Late M.R. AKtar Mukul during his ‘Charam Patro’ radio-talk of Shawdin Bangla Betar Kendra. Finally, he uttered the ‘Kemon Bujtacen’ phrase while he and other members of Exile [Probashi] government landed down to the then Dacca Tejgaon Airport. This was the expression of Extreme Ecstasy of Victory after 9-month bloody liberation war.
I’m somewhat happy and was waiting for the day for so long after taking over of current extra-constitutional government who are the beneficiaries of the great mischiefs of the great Hasina.
What is the wrong with Hasina! So mucha and so many.
She is the mother of extortionism. Before her government, from Sheik Mujib to Ershad there were no, despite many misrules, extortionism through cheif executive office of the country [prime minister]. She was the pioneer. Tarique got his best Taleem from her great AUNT SK. HASINA. Now the extornism expert DUO Hasina and Tarique can be closer together. Either they will have chances to brew new conspiracies or confess their crimes.
Now the CTG can exonerate the charges against them that they are biased. They have belatedly proven that the CTG is catering laws equally to everybody. The application of laws doesn’t discriminate the weakest and the most powerul, the poor and the rich; the law in Bangladesh is not one-eye-blinded; it has 20/20 vision to all irrespective of status.
Mannan Bhuiyan, Tofael, Amu and others who are so called pro-reformation stooges shouldn’t be spared. No criminals should have shelter from CTG for the fake promise of reforms. A true workable reform can’t come from the criminals.
And finally, if there is genuine charges against Khaleda she also be brougt to books.
If Khaleda has the same fate of being busted, the historic two Lordesses be placed in the same Subjail like the Shaik and BanglaBhai were.
Thanks.

I must inform Tanoy that there is no doubt at all that our former Prime Minister was not honest. Abdul Gaffar Choudhury wrote in one of his articles that he had interviewed Sheikh Hasina at her own flat at Knightsbridge. Hasina does not have any known source of income from which she could afford to buy a flat like that. Hasina always travels first class. Any idea how much a first class ticket costs? And where does the money come from? Donations meant for the Party? We want a clean Bangladesh. If Tarique is a thief, so is Hasina and a host of others. They should all be tried and held accountable for their crimes.
July 16th, 2007 at 1:08 pm
What is the link between Yesuddin[President]
out of the country and Sheik Hasina’s arrest?
And why Jamiruddin Sircar not given over the charge of presidency in abscence. This is an indication, Khaldea might be arrested soon because under the watch of President Iajuddin and Jamiruddin the arrest of Khaleda may not be possible. And I think this is the reason president is out for a short leave without handing over charge to the speaker as deemed by constitution.
Thanks.

Wonderful, wonderful news.
Beginning of the End? Yes I hope so.
Beginning of the end of unqualified dynasticism. Beginning of the end of non-accountable political families who have spat on the graves of millions of poor Bangladeshis who gave their lives for an independent Bangladesh.
Beginning of the end of incompetent, non-meritocratic elites who have held the country to ransom for decades while they brazenly played an asanine game of village politics on the backs of 150 million people.
Roll on!

In my opinion, it is quite likely that there are indeed serious allegations of corruption that need to be pursued.
The problem is that people, by and large, are not going to buy this move as well intentioned since it is going to be viewed through the “minus two” lens.
If prosecution of corruption was indeed the primary motive, then the natural question arises: why did the CTG try to prevent SH from coming back to Bangladesh? Wouldn’t you want her to face corruption charges in accordance to the law? The same questions arise as far as forcing KZ and family out of the country.
I think that contrary to what the CTG is intending, this might actually boost SH political life, as she will eventually come out of jail cheered by supporters with garlands of flowers. It is going to weaken the reform efforts within the AL.

In an exclusive email interview with E-Bangladesh.org, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Bangladesh Awami League’s international lobbyist and son of Sheikh Hasina, has blasted the military-led interim government for persecuting his mother.
“In Bangladesh and outside, everyone, with the exception of a few corrupt leaders, is completely united behind Sheikh Hasina,” Joy wrote to Sushanto Das Gupta, Chief Editor at E-bangladesh.org. Excerpts.
E-Bangladesh: Why this arrest? What is the military backed interim government in Bangladesh trying to achieve by arresting Sheikh Hasina? Your take.
Sajeeb Wazed Joy: They have to remove her from the scene as she has spoken out repeatedly against this government’s misdeeds. As she is now the most popular figurehead left in the country, with her in the picture their plans cannot succeed. With her arrest, there is no one to challenge them and they can continue with their dictatorial regime indefinitely. That is their ultimate plan. A few generals and our caretaker have gotten ambitious. They want to stay in power indefinitely. In order to do that they have to remove all political opposition. Hence my mother’s arrest.
E-Bangladesh: What were your first thoughts after the arrest this morning?
Sajeeb Wazed Joy: We knew this was coming. We just were not sure when they would arrest her.
E-Bangladesh: Did you talk to her before the arrest?
Sajeeb Wazed Joy: I spoke to her about an hour before she was taken away. She reminded me of 1971 and that my grandfather had been arrested by the Pakistanis many times on false charges. Ultimately their conspiracy failed and so will this one. She told me not to be scared. I told her that I would do whatever it takes.
E-Bangladesh: What does this mean for the future of AL and the political future of the country?
Sajeeb Wazed Joy: For the AL nothing really changes. Today I have received phone calls from AL leaders and activists, as well as supporters and well wishers of my mother both in Bangladesh and outside and everyone, with the exception of a few corrupt leaders, is completely united behind Sheikh Hasina.
E-Bangladesh: Given the current situation, Sheikh Hasina imprisoned and military backed government consolidating power, are you going to take a more active role in politics now, join the fight for democracy?
Sajeeb Wazed Joy: I will do whatever it takes to stop their conspiracy. I will certainly go to Bangladesh. I am not sure as to the timeframe, but I have already initiated the fight for democracy in our country. Right now protests are going on worldwide against this regime. We will not stop until democracy is restored in Bangladesh.
July 16th, 2007 at 3:02 pm
The article by AGC was published in Jugantor perhaps in 2005. Please don’t get me wrong, I do not have any venom against anyone. We must understand democracy. It may be of interest to you that the present Prime Minister of UK Mr. Gordon Brown could only afford an economy class ticket when flying to his honeymoon and Britain is a rich country. Virgin Atlantic gave him a complimentary upgrade. Mrs. Blair was fined for not having bought her underground (train) ticket in advance in 2004. My cousin who was studying in Sweden in 1962 found the gentleman sitting next to him in the bus look familiar and realised later that he was sitting next to the Prime Minister of Sweden. You are probably comparing our politicians with American politicians who are all millionaires. The problem with us is that we only talk of democracy to oust our ‘enemies’ from power. We actually want a monarchy. There are are two distinct groups of people who want two different dynasties.
We talk of corruption when we want to nail our ‘enemies’. When our brothers and sisters are corrupt we would prefer to overlook their corruption. This is not how we are going to have a corruption free society. I know you would hasten to add that there is no corruption free society but do we always have to be right at the top of the list of corrupt countries even though we are one of the poorest countries of the world? Dear Sirs, I do not know how old you all are but you assume too much when you say that I have no idea of travelling by executive class or first class. I do not want to boast about my own life but rest assured I earned whatever I spend. I assume you also earned your tickets!

I knew that Sheikh Hasina’s time was coming I hope these dictators are locked behind bars and punished for their atrocities. I cant beleive there are stupid people in bangladesh who actually support them. All they done while they were in power was cause chaos and ruined the country, they have not done anything for the common people but lined their pockets with money.
I salute Dr Fakhruddin

Zahid, This is simply useless to speak about age and financial ability. It is individual preference . Buddhadev Bhattacharjee went writer’s building on foot. Motia Chowdhury , Mujahid islam selim had a very simple life.
But You can’t blame someone to travel on executive class.
Things are due process . I better suggest you to read the comments of Saleh Tanveer Bhai on 31#.
If they take sheikh Hasina on the basis of assumption, some over rated advisers should be arrested even before. Some of them don’t have even very clean history.
If Hasina speaks against DGFI , as a concerned Citizen they should also be transparent to the Nations.
Anti corruption does not means you will avoid all sorts of check and balance and transparency.

BNP had sense (not details) that nation will move into political uncertainty if 3 months CTG fails. Hasina probably had different plan or agenda and she wanted 1/11. She succeeded, BNP’s prediction came true and 3rd power is full swing. If AW ever comes to power in next election, it would be the greatest & dramatically achievement by a political party in Bangladesh. If not, Hasina-AW would be considered as one of the biggest suicidal party led by an incompetent leader.
July 16th, 2007 at 5:11 pm
I am just a bit confused. Excuse my simplistic doubt.
What I understand is this: Bangladesh came top in corruption 5 consecutive times under the leadership of SH/KZ.
Should they as leader bear any responsibility for their failure and success in bringing this shame to nation! Should they be answerable! Every employee is given a performance report at the end of the year. Who should review their performance and how should we rate them for bringing this shame to nation despite having absolute power to do anything and every thing in the name of democracy!
If Enron goes down, CEO is fired, and jailed. If Worldcom goes down, adminitartion is made answerable. Lord Black is found guilty. If organization does not do good, CEOs and Executives are changed.
What should happen to Leaders of a nation, who failed as leader in terms of performance, leave alone our love and emotion! What should happen to leaders under whose tutilege bangla Bhai killed people, Home Minister pardons murderer, rampant corruption takes place, Hartals are called and in that hartal simple tom, dick and harry get killed and burnt! No more debate, lets put them back to power. Let us repeat last 10 years. let us have more murderers pardoned, let us have more hazaris, selim, pintu, falu, and what not! We actually deserve this. let us be happy - Peace.
I apologize in advance if I am hurting any AL / BNP followrs or adament supporter. My intention is not that. Actually I am totally confused seeing that we still stand behind the failed leaders, of course in my book.
I do want reform. KZ says she accepts reform. Hasina says she accepts reform and she talked about that. But Dear Leaders - why did not you do the reform on your own when you were in power!
I am very much in love with our political parties just like many emotional writers here. I do want either BNP or AL to come to power through next election. But I don’t want to give chance to a leader who were tested 10/5 years as leaders and 5/10 years as opposition leader and failed the exam. I want BNP / AL whoever wins in next election comes back to guide this nation with new faces who can lead the country in a way not similar to the way it was followed last 10 years.
Because, it is proven, the way country was led last 10 years was grossly wrong. Otherwise why would the report card of the nation show that we were the last student in the class of world.
We need new teacher but in the same school.
Dear Tanoy, you may not believe me, but that is your discretion. But those who are close to SH / KZ and the organization that was used, knows very well that it was them who used DGFI for their naked partisan politics for all the wrong purpose. DGFI never worked on its own. DGFI never worked under the direct order of Chief of Army. DGFI always remained under the direct political control of your and my love, our love, BNP / AL.
You can go back in time to election 1998 and ask the local adminitration why the then AL MP candidate was in OC’s office surrounded by all including DGFI who were introducing him as the next MP, even before the election was over! You can talk to the Divisional Commissioner/DC/OC, who will say that yes the vote was cast the night before, if they at all tells the truth and not under army authority but through civil administration. But they will never tell the truth. You can definitely ask Kader Siddiqui what he thinks about his failure to get re-elected! Who dropped the leaflet announcing that K.S has withdrawn his candidacy and under whose order! You can ask the deads (4 in total) whose news never came up in the paper. But dead they are and so are they silent. You will not get the answer why their corpses were not returned even! If the dead could talk they will tell you their corpses were not even returned, lest peopel know that some one was truly killed. Afterall it had to be a picture perfect election for good peoples like you. So that none asks question about it. You can ask Gen …., the then Brigadier General ….., later possibly SH’s security in charge, what he had to do as the officer in sharge of DGFI under SH! You will not know the answer. These answers are kept secret so that good people like you can be convinced that SH never really did use DGFI. You will not believe me and many will not as to you it seems like fairy tale. Be it then. This is a fairy tale but not to one who witnesses those.
But why to speak against our beloeved leaders! I would not. What I wrote is my fantasy and be it mine. I am dreaming a bad dream.
Alas! today Chor became Shadhu! Those hwo used DGFI to their absolute purpose proclaims like a prophet of truth: “DGFI should do its job and not do this and that!….ahhhhhh….. How nice to hear the clarion call! Indeed.
I feel for you, a good soul, who reposes so much trust in the leadership. My heart bleeds, to see that how your trust is being exploited! Like you many others. Like the way you seem to believe that Hasina never used DGFI! Shame on us that we can fool people as if it is our devine right. But you know that rythm… Fool me once … Fool me twice…. and it goes…
I just hope good people like you and good supporters are paid back truly and not through lies and mistries. Because you won’t believe fairy tales. Those who saw believes that good supporters like you deserve much more than what you seem to be getting and satisfied with.
I am not offending you, brother. Nor showing disrespect to your feeling. But just feel that you and like you every one else deserves much more. Trust me.
But you will not trust as you are too good a supporter. Possibly good at heart.
Ignore my post - these are non-sensical writing. Let us give three cheers to SH / KZ.
Thanks and welcome back - LTT.

Hunger for power through undemocratic and unrepresented means, albeit gun points, is the biggest of all corruption.

Tanoy, you have a point there! We all know that the corruption in our political system does not end with the two leaders. It probably goes all the way down to the grass roots. I am well aware that political activists get paid for attending rallies burning cars and killing people. We also know that our bureaucrats, our police, our judges(Faizee!), our businessmen, our labour leaders, all are corrupt. Suppose you were asked to eliminate corruption in Bangladesh, where would you start? Would you really want Bangladesh to revisit the days immediately prior to 1/11? We definitely need a change and this is what I think the present adminstration is trying to achieve.Their methods are probably not perfect but perhaps you can suggest a better method of achieving the change. If another election is held only by correcting the voter list, are you sure you would not have a situation that could perhaps lead the country to a civil war? And if there is no need for democracy in the political parties, why do we need democracy in the country? I am acutely aware of the shortcomings of some members of the present adminstration but where would you find flawless people? They have embarked on some projects which might give a new direction to this country. There are no guarantees though. Let us judge them after December 2008, by which time hopefully, we shall have an elected government of some sort.
July 16th, 2007 at 5:35 pm
I am saddened by the bitterness expressed in some of the comments. Surely we Bangladeshis cannot be so full of self-hate and jealousy. Corruption is not being eradicated, injustice in a novel form is staring us in the face. Hasina is the legacy of Bongobondhu, and those who have treated her with such humiliation cannot expect to silence the entire country with fear, not for long. We must give Bangladesh the support to stand up for its daughter.

There are many commenters here that support Hasina and I am surprised to hear so many comments in her support. I am not pro BNP, pro Jamati or pro CTG, but a regular citizen who never got involved in politics. I did get the chance to start an export oriented industry and work closely with Banks and EPZ authorities of Bangladesh. I also graduated from one of the best schools and college in Dhaka. So I am familiar with quite a lot of people who consider themselves educated and concerned about the lot of the country. I have never seen any neutral person with some slight intelligence like or support these two ladies. These two ladies have been a disaster for Bangladesh, we should get rid of them, with due process, as soon as it is feasible. No one sheds their tears in Bengal for Khaleda and Hasina, except for corrupt politicians and henchmen and the gunda bahini that have benefitted from these two lady Sardar of Gunda/goon bahini’s as I like to call them. Politics and the so called democracy in Bangladesh is nothing but a joke. I give Shabash to the courage of CTG to go for this against pressure from so called “international community”. We need to have a system where politics is not a business and leaders who serve the people, not steal their meals, when many cannot afford decent three meals a day.
July 16th, 2007 at 6:09 pm
i do not why so many us are making a huge fuss of it. She is held in a case where there have been sufficient proofs. Her own cousin brother has said to a magistrate that he had taken the money extorted and shared it with his sister, Sheikh Hasina. She should not get away only because she happens to be the daughter of our father of the nation. Bangabandhu would have never sold nominations to Talibans like Mufti Shahidul of Khelafat Majlish. Our father of the nation would not sell nominations at one crore a piece to shady businessmen with no political past.
i am an ordinary citizen, i myself distributed sweets, and i know of more people who did the same. If Khaleda Zia gets arrested tomorrow I will do the same. If Tofael Razzak are sent to prison i will do the same. I have promised myself that if Ershad-Nizami are arrested i will donate a goat to the nearest Eitimkhana. Do you ppl not understand one thing: we enjoy it, we ordinary ppl love it when big corrupt politicians are arrested? I have firm faith in this govt, recently they said even the reformists would be arrested if investigations found them corrupt. I am a martyrs daughter.

Re: #39, #40.
I am no fan of our “Netris”, and I suspect Mr. Rumi is not too different in this regards.
Personally, I feel that these two “Netris” have treated the country as their fiefdom– brooking no descent while aiding and abetting corruption in return for personal allegiance. They have stunted the democratic process and they are have a lot of responsibility for the present intolerant and corrupt political culture.
Nonetheless, not knowing whether or not most people in BD share my feelings, I would rather have the the two “Netris” made irrelevant over time through a political process– not force it on the people. Otherwise, the prescribed cure is itself more dangerous, in the sense of precedence, than the illness itself.
A trial process has to be deemed fair by the majority of the people. The CTG, by actively pursuing a “minus two” solution, has lost credibility on this count since a “minus two” formula prejudges the guilt of the “Netris”. Despite adviser Mainul Hossain’s comment about the law taking its own course, there will remain significant doubts about the fairness as the CTG itself has demonstrated an active stake in the outcome.
My fear is that this whole episode is just going to leave our “Netris” stronger at the end.

Nadia, #44:
SH continued BB’s legacy insofar as nepotism and cronyism is concerned. She still commands the affection of a lot of people, but as noted above, she and her mirror image, KZ, have pretty much been bad news for us.
Good riddance I say. And hopefully, she won’t be recycled back into the system in a few months.

“Hasina is the legacy of Bongobondhu”
Looks like the apologists for the “hereditary kingdom” model are out in full force today. Being in Bangladesh at the moment, I can tell you this much for a certain fact. Not one of the people I’ve spoken to since the news broke early in the morning has expressed the SLIGHTEST perturbation. On the streets, there is not the faintest whiff of a stir. It’s very much business as usual out here. The common people - that’s “common”, as in non-partisan and not blindly beholden to one side or the other - are thoroughly indifferent to this news from all appearances. They possibly could not care any less if they tried. If you want to know what really worries them right now, try reading a few of the links here:
http://news.google.com/news?um=1&tab=wn&client=firefox-a&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=inflation%20bangladesh
http://dailynayadiganta.com/2007/07/15/fullnews.asp?News_ID=32524&sec=1
http://dailynayadiganta.com/fullnews.asp?News_ID=32741&sec=3
http://dailynayadiganta.com/fullnews.asp?News_ID=32839&sec=29
Useful links. The way inflation is spiralling out of control here, the way prices of essentials have been rising for the last 2 years non-stop and are about to go up again, anyone who has the misfortune of living outside the Gulshan-Banani (or expat-financed) bubble is pretty much screwed. Something about Nero’s fiddle comes to mind when you hear our “politicians” yammering away about their collective misfortune.

1. Does one need to be a rocket scientist or nuclear physicists to understand that Hasia and Khaleda, in the name of democracy, created a bunch of thugs who had been looting public money in millions?
2. Why can’t we all think positive and start working hard developing awareness for a better political system and culture?
3. Could Hasina-Khaleda supporters please explain 5 solid causes in favor of NOT to put these 2 ladies on trial for their irresponsible acts and some cases, active patronization, for that number of corrupt people became million dollar rich with no valid reasons.
4. Why after 36 years after independence we still treat our “democratically” elected public representatives like queens? Don’t we need to change this political culture?
5. How does Joy made $300 million and I or many other Bangladeshis can’t despite having similar academic and professional achievement/ background? Joy didn’t inherited any wealth from his grand parents (Bongobondhu and father of Dr. Wajed) but then how does he make so much of wealth when no body else can?
6. How does Tareqq Rahman make millions also when people with similar skill set and academic/professio0nal background fail to do so and when we know Tareqe’s father/ grand parents weren’t millionaires?
7. Same works for Coco, Falu, Lalu, Bulu, Dulu, Bana Huda and all who don’t have any solid skill set or lottery winning background to have millions.
8. How does Sheikh Rehana purchase a million dollar plus home in one of the most expensive area in London? Did Rehana or her husband’s forefathers were millionaire?
9. Everybody knows we may have hundred more questions like above could be in our mind.
10. It is also time to take folks (Amla, Generals, business guys and so on) to task who made their own fortune and kept running this trend of looting public money.
11. Joy, in his recent statements on his mom’s arrest, forgot that 1971 and 2007 are not same in terms of gravity of the overall political situation and commoner’s expectation. I am sure Joy is wise enough to understand it but just tried to play a “foul game” and has proved he belongs to the same rusty stinking band of looters by heart and mind. He forgot that his grandpa, Bongobondhu didn’t loot like his mom and uncle in 1971.
12. So why do we need to cry for Hasina or Khaleda if they are arrested and put on trial?
July 16th, 2007 at 6:37 pm
A good piece by Mahfuz Anam
July 16th, 2007 at 6:38 pm
i am no astrologer but i do think ordinary ppl are very tired of both the begums. At the fag end of Khaleda and Yesuddin’s rule, awami league’s blockade programmes became an object of mockery because 15-20 ppl attended them. It is a little wonder that there is virtually no protest in the country, 20-50 took out processions, and that too were without any zeal or passion. Hasina’s compared the arrest with the arrest of Bangabandhu. How dare he is to insult our great leader like this. Bangabandhu never sold nominations to businessmen, Hasina for her turn made Awami League a business organization, selling nominations to fellow businessmen. Imagine if Mufti Shahidul the taliban really contested the elections, using boat as his symbol. Boat which is the symbol of 1970s elections. Our glorious Muktijuddo.
And dont forget the Logi-boita. Would any sensible person say something like this. Did she expect ppl to kiss each other using them. This is noting but worlordism.
Aar je mamlae take dhora hoyche shey mamlae her own cousin said he extorted money to share it with Hasina. I am annoyed that she has been given a house as a jail. She should be in the central jail, with the others who are facing extortion charges. Ain shobar jonno shoman hobe na keno.
July 16th, 2007 at 6:48 pm
#44 and others in general,
I’m not cheering on Hasina’s arrest and detention. But I have to ask: why this comparison between Bongobondhu vs. the Pakistanis and Sheikh Hasina vs. the CTG?
Sheikh Hasina is Mujib’s legacy? Ei shob ulta palta kotha boley please Sheikh Mujib ke insult korben na. Kisher legacy? Jamaater shaathey politicking er legacy? Khelafater shaathey MOU korar legacy? Shadhin deshey shadhin election harar porey parliament e na boshar legacy? Onno shob kichu cherey shudhu desher manusher kotha chinta korar legacy?
Then we have the ludicrous analogy between this and 1971. Please apnara matha bebohaar koren ebong ektu bhebey chintey kotha bolen. Do you think our military or members of the CTG like being compared to Pakistani hanadars? Ei rokom chorom insult shob throw na korey ektu balance raakhley kemon hoy? The only way this makes sense is if you think that the history of Bangladesh = the history of the Mujib family and our army = any army. Do you think either equation makes sense?
Also, what’s all this about protests in front of court? Would you/we honour this in any other court case, that the public is putting pressure on the judicial system? Let’s have a silent agreement not to put more pressure on our fragile judicial system huh?

Sawsan,
On this Dp, comments after comments made villein of Mahfuz Anam and Motiur Rahman, just few days back. there papers were called to have hidden agenda…You can check back this. This was when they had been not taking position in favour of two netris.
Now it is time for them to become hero….once again his pieces will become good. Just because he writes in favour of the netris.
Thanks for sharing a good piece indeed.

Isn’t it interesting to see how a lawyer is crying for Hasina! A lawyer - so which party she is suppose to belong to!
When we cry for impartial judiciary, depoliticization, ….this pictures speaks more than words - how much politicized every branch has become.
On a negative connotation, it speaks bad of the lawyer who is supposed to be calm and composed and overtly professional.
On a brighter note, I am impressed by seeing the following of Hasina, despite her immense failure as a leader and as an opposition leader. Just in case, since Hasina is not an angel, if ever she commits a crime, I wonder will this blind follower of her will ever believe that her netri could commit a crime!
No way….and so God bless Bangladesh.
Thanks

Interesting points. Much appreciated.
Rest keep it up. Really enjoying the DP postings by lots of new comes. The journey has began. We should all look for the better interest of the country and for that even if I have to sacrifice for my mother and father or brothers and sisters and friends and foes I am up for it.
The country should come first than party and than family and friends.

A case was filed by a “Private” businessman againts Sheikh Hasina for extorting 3 crores of Taka.
The police registered the complaint and did it’s investigation. SH’s alleged accomplice in the extortion case, her own cousin, gave confessional statement in the court of law implicating himself and SH.
The police finished it’s investigation and was ready to chargesheet Sheikh Hasina, for this SH is arrested and produced before the CMM court, which placed her on a month’s detention.
Surely the CTG could have used it’s “ifluence” to delay her arrest or expedite it, CTG has decided to do the latter in keeping with it’s delcared zero tolerance policy againts corrupt political leaders.
Many of the postings on this topic say that SH being a former PM should have been shown extra courtesy but I say because she is a former PM she should be dealt with the full force of the law.
A former PM should be a positive rolemodel for the nation and should not have tainted herself with questionable transactions (still an allegation.), taking the nation to near civil war condition, calling endless hartals, boycotting parliament, keeping the port hostage through her proxy Mayor Mohiuddin…and I could go on and on.
I for one would like her to stand charges for inciting violence and murder. Number of people lost their lives as a result of SH urging her supporters to battle the BNP/Jamaat with logi/boithas on the streets of Dhaka.
To those who say our judicial system is corrupt, to them I say, shouldn’t we then release every single person who are now behind bars and they were convicted by a incompetent judicial body!!

#55 LetsTalkTruth
It’s not about Mr. Anam favoring for or against the netris. I think the write-up brings up some very good points about failure to achieve democracy by dictating who the future leaders should be. The article is not trying to side with any one of the netris and even acknowledges that the CG has been “creditably” removing “obstacles” that are required for good governance.
July 16th, 2007 at 7:59 pm
I agree with the piece by Mahfuz Anam to an extent that the CTG has to have more finesse in their operation and it should not create a puppet govt. I also agree that in dealing with snakes like Hassina and Khaleda, the CTG have to be careful to not make them into victims and generate sympathy from our gullible masses who can be easily manipulated by the various patron forces and their client agents working in our country. The best way forward is to make them irrelevant by relentlessly going for positive work as priority one, such as solving immediate problems like:
- preparing for the upcoming election, voter list, ID card etc.
- making sure no corrupt politician can come back to politics, it should be reserved for people with integrity and honesty who wants to serve the people
- bringing down the price for essentials by removing import duty and giving incentives to traders to look for these goods in different source countries, perhaps we should deal with Myanmar to lease some land and produce some essentials there in collaboration with the Myanmarese and finish the road to Kunming asap to bring Chinese goods by trucks and railroad
- solving the power generation problem, a full combined cycle power station can be installed in 3-6 months, from the time of order placement. A new station cost $0.5-1 million/MW and used ones cost as little as 0.1-0.2 million/MW. With a ready market, financing is not an issue, it is a matter of picking the best source. Even the consumers themselves can finance it. A household needing 1 KW can easily invest $500 to get uninterrupted power. Work should be started on nuclear power generation for the long term solution of this problem. If it is safe for France to generate 70% of their power needs then it should be safe enough for us
Catching past criminals and punishing them is good for making examples, so people are not encouraged to go this route again, but more importantly the ill gotten wealth should be recovered and put to public use and should be returned from every country, including USA, UK and Swiss Banks, as it is the people’s money and wealth that was stolen from them. Joy or Tareq, no one should be allowed to get away with this. But these operations should be priority number two.
Lets pick up the pieces and move forward and leave our past in the garbage dump, where they should rot in the hell of irrelevance. Lets not be obsessed with the past, creating our future is more important, lets concentrate on building a great future for our unlucky 150 million, they deserve it from us who had the good fortune to type these comments.
July 16th, 2007 at 8:26 pm
I could not help but comment on the funny photo of the lawyer crying. Someone should have shoved some banana between her exposed teeth and slap her really good to bring her to her senses.
I worship Hasina
Hasina can do no wrong
She cannot go to jail (even if its a VIP one)
I cry for Hasina
Photo taken by “international journalist” get world wide exposure
I become world famous and show people’s support for Hasina (maybe I can start a lawyers revolution like the one in Pakistan)
Maybe I can become a future minister under Hasina and steal more millions and buy shopping mall in Florida
The days of fooling people are over, we can see through these silly jokes.

Dear Sawwan:
Yes Sawsan, it is about Mr. Anam favoring for or against the netris. If he writes against netris then the good does not remain good. Then he becomes one who seemingly leaves his journalistic ethics and what not! You can definitely read such comments here. I havn’t heard you saying that he ever wrote good things about CTG that you appreciated until this time when he principally writes for netri. Now that he writes for netri, talking about his good comments about CTG makes sense as that makes him look like balanced. And his point of view acceptable.
Anyway, emotion and logic does not go hand in hand.
Abul Kalam Post # 62, Isn’t it a shame that that is a picture of a lawyer who is supposed to fight cases against corruption! How would she ever fight against a AL person accused of corrupt if that requirement comes up ever! Good to see, other than me there are other people thinking this line. She is a shame of a lawyer.
Boishakhi Post # 59
“Many of the postings on this topic say that SH being a former PM should have been shown extra courtesy but I say because she is a former PM she should be dealt with the full force of the law.” - well said.
Could not have agreed more: “I for one would like her to stand charges for inciting violence and murder. Number of people lost their lives as a result of SH urging her supporters to battle the BNP/Jamaat with logi/boithas on the streets of Dhaka.”
Thanks

Down with the corruption. We don’t want to see again BD in the most corrupted countries list(number 1? 5 times?. Countries leaders are also responsible for the corruptions that have been taken place. Their saliency means ok to do that

A question to add to post 51
1) Does Mr Syed R Zaman have some proof to back up his allegations or is he indulging in some creative writing?
July 16th, 2007 at 10:43 pm
This not a CTG nor a army backed govt. It is govt run by jamati supported army officer and so called advisor. People of bangladesh, forget about democracy. It is another re-run of the movie already played by Zia and Ershad. Thank god, the picture become clear with in 6 months.
July 16th, 2007 at 10:49 pm
Excellent question Jailhouse Rock. I would also pose the very same question to #66.
July 16th, 2007 at 11:01 pm
Could you please explain if don’t agree with?
1. Why do we have such Hasina and AL supporters who ransacked/ set ablaze public buses/properties (Mymensingh and Jessore) and have gone to a complete destruction behavior while protesting the arrest of their “queen” like figure? Aren’t we looking forward and working hard at this time to say good bye to such extreme “leader-praising” political culture?
2. I consider as a nation, our people are very emotional by nature but does this make sense that we are to give bandits a free go who looted public money and wealth and figures like Hasina and Khaleda who offered solid shelter underneath own umbrella in last 15 years?
3. Does anybody think with no active “blessings” and patronization from Hasina-Khaleda -thugs like Haris Chowdhry, Falu, Nasim, Pintu, Haji Mokbul and so on could play Ha-do-do with public money at all?
5. In “Close-up -Tomakey Khujse Bangladesh”, people may choose Salma the #1 over much better contenders like Muhin, Putul or Ronti. The polling result that selects #1 singer reflects how emotionally we choose somebody (I assume Salma was the youngest one of all the participants, that’s why) by neglecting rationale. But can we really afford to do so while selecting leadership just by applying the same emotional judgment like by favoring Hasina because she’s Bongobondhu daughter or the other one being Late Zia’s spouse only?
Doesn’t it sound like public opinion reflecting fire or stone-age or complete mediaeval even though a clan, at least, used to select their “headman” based on some leadership qualities after all!
6. Isn’t it the time to stand beyond emotions and become realistic to have a better, effective and honest political leadership in days ahead?
So why to destroy public properties to show any more useless agonies?
July 16th, 2007 at 11:37 pm
#65 JailHouseRock
I appreciate JailHouseRock’s response:
1.Bana Huda, Mirza Abbas or Md Nasim still keeps saying they “didn’t do anything”. So does Hasina, Joy (for his mom) or Khaleda. I am not sure though what Tareq Rahman, Mir Nasir or Aman Ullah Aman are saying on own looting at this time. Or how would Haris Chowdhry justify his fugitive life now in Assam? Or what was so necessary for Nanak-Azam crossing the border and escape.
2.I would say, for nurturing the thugs who made millions by looting public money; both these 2 ladies are to serve 20% of jail terms and fine for each individual they opened the door for absolute looting.
3.Does it appear to JailHouseRock that Mir Nasir and Amanullah Aman didn’t do anything for that they were sent to jail at this time or even before at the time when Khaleda was allowing them to do so? Don’t you think that Bana Huda doing anything “wrong” despite his dramatic claims of innocence at the court? If you do then what’s wrong to think of the same for Hasina or Khaleda?
4.Doesn’t JailHouseRock feel at least once that Khaleda-Hasina bear some “responsibilities” to make illicit money and help own thugs doing the same in last 15 years? Or JailHouseRock thinks it’s Khaleda but not Hasina or visa-versa?
5.Could you please give 5 solid reasons that Hasina didn’t do any harm to this country and thus she shouldn’t be trialed at this time? Please don’t include the cause that Hasina is the daughter of Bongobondhu …so …(You know what I mean)..!!
July 16th, 2007 at 11:44 pm
RE: #68.1 Syed,
Exactly, it’s this Jalao/Porao attitude of Khaleda/Hasina which has broght about the emergency government.
Both SH and KZ have said they want to reform their old ways (Songskar). It would have been nice if SH before going to subjail, instructed her party men to refrain from violence to protest her detention - but as we well know jalao/porao is the main weapon they have and they will be reluctant to give it up.
July 17th, 2007 at 3:19 am
After her arrest, Sheikh Hasina quoted that she fears none but Allah. My question, if public display of religious servitude is not permitted by a majority of muslim scholars, why does Sheikh Hasina feel the need to compromise her so-called faith?

I’m not cheering on Hasina’s arrest and detention. But I have to ask: why this comparison between Bongobondhu vs. the Pakistanis and Sheikh Hasina vs. the CTG?
Sheikh Hasina is Mujib’s legacy? Ei shob ulta palta kotha boley please Sheikh Mujib ke insult korben na. Kisher legacy? Jamaater shaathey politicking er legacy? Khelafater shaathey MOU korar legacy? Ans: Asif yes comparison is obvious in here.
See 1/11 was demand of the time. But Base was really week because of the state of Emergency. As
a result some unelected Regime got absolute power. Basically This CTG is not the same CTG of 90 and 96, 2001.
Problem lies in our approach. while AL rejected the KM Hassan Issue some people told
Al should accept Hassan> even some corner of the country they demanded to accept Justice Aziz as well although we know It is the pure unfair demand.
Then It is 1/11 . Dr Fakruddin is a perfect man but who are his surroundings?
It was unfortunate that we could not utilize the people like Dr Akbar Ali Khana, Hasan Mashud Chy, Sultana Kamal, Shafi Swami or Dhiraj Kumar Nath because of Iaj Uddin.
But we found some
extremely controversial people like Barrister Mainul Hossain, Abdul Matin, Ayub Kaderi in Current Cabinet.
each and every one of us know about party feeling of Mainul.
At least I don’t believe that a guy like Mainul can be neutral.
Biggest problem is that this Govt does not accept the difference of opinion . Very recent example is the remark of Tapan Chowdhury against CPD.
Another thing Asif I know you are a very bright student of Secular politics . But now it is the demand of time why Jamat is untouched?
why Barrister Mainul is avoiding to answer
regarding
arrest Nijami and Mujahid on the same case.
Now Asif You can’t avoid the people who are infront of the court. Because I personally believe as Judiciary is not independent still now, Tughlakhi Vaerdict will come from
there .
As a common Citizen I am worried about this . Basically solution was there If we do have independent Judiciary.
Basically way the things are going on in Bangladesh with out due process, comparison to Pakistan army is necessary in here.
Any way Asif I hope you won’t mind . Besides

I find the following things now shaddy AND IRRELEVANT after hasina capture:
1. Studying daily prothom Alo.
2. Existence of Election Commission.
3. Observing Sheikh MUJIBS ASSASINATION ANNIVERSARY.
4.Watching some medaia channel.

Am getting tired of listening broken record of due process. Can any one help me out please? The way the Hasina supporters are disrespecting the people calling ’stupid’ in this blog one can easily imagine how their leader’s nature could be. Like leaders like their disciple.
If the so call educated people are hypnotized by our diabolic leaders then just imagine how the rest of the 90% half educated and illiterate people were fooled by these corrupt leaders over the last 36 years.
Nadia Hossain: Urging you to think rationally. Bongo Bondus daughter is not an angel. She is one of the most corrupt lady in Bangladesh. Probably present CTG got the concrete evidence against her which led them to arrest her.

#70 Syed R Zaman
You can answer my question with as many lists of ‘whys’ and ‘hows’ as you want but my point is this: it’s one thing to ask open-ended questions (for the sake of discussion) like ‘don’t you think xyz are responsible for this, that and the other’ and another to make specific accusations citing specific figures without proof. In this regard there’s no difference between me alleging that Syed R Zaman has $300 million of illegal money and you saying the same about Joy; I don’t have any proof and you don’t seem to have offered any either!

Hey Guys,
Remember this is the prime minster spent thousands of pound buying dog’s while the people of Bangladesh facing poverty and starvation, Where system is corrupted what can the dog do.
Can anyone tell me why is Awaami League blaming Jaamat for what is happening now? isn’t this creation of thier own, didn’t they wanted a neutrol Interim Goverment, Didn’t Sheik Has asked the Goverment on 20th February to prosecute the corrupted person.
I can remeber when BNP was strongly in favour of having election within 90 Days according to constition and awamileague was campaining against. How is it now the current givernment is breaking the law…Didn’t awaami league wanted the voter list to be correct, didn’t they say they are ready to wait….

I think many of us have chosen to conveniently forget the run of events that led to the current situation.
There was chaos and anarchy in the country. AL can justifiably claim that there were clear indications that the elections were going to be manipulated. There were issues with electoral rolls, election commission, CTG composition and so on. Finally, there arose a situation that the army had to move in under the guise of a brand new CTG.
The army top brass justifiably felt that it was not enough to simply have another round of elections. A simple change of guard was not going to improve the lot of the common masses. There was a need to weed out massive corruption that has pervaded all sectors of our society. And so the process began, the high and mighty of yester years started to be dragged into the net. Many of those under custody started to talk, there started to emerge a picture of massive corruption conducted by both parties.
This cleanup process enjoys massive public support. Many in the country feel that it makes sense to penalize the corrupt individuals before rushing to hand over power to a so-called democratically elected government. It is worth remembering that many in our society like Ershad, Hasina, Khaleda, Tarique, Saqa and others will win in any fair election, no matter what the allegations against them are. Hence there was a need for the army to clean up the stables before having elections.
I have been a long-time supporter of the AL but as a conscious citizen I cannot support the statements and activities of SH during the past few months. Why the rush for elections? Why is she creating an image of irresponsibility and immaturity. Whereas KZ is going through a much more troubled period, she is mainating her dignity and poise. SH on the other hand manages to act like a revolutionary of sort. Too much talk and too little substance. Let us not forget that part of the accusations against her are coming from info provided by Selim and Jalil.
It is incomprehensible that many are raising a brouhaha about Hasina’s arrest but no questions were raised when others like Maudood (I know he is no saint) were arrested on flimsy charges of possessing alcohol. Let us try to give credit to this CTG for trying to clean up our society, which was hitherto not undertaken by anybody. They are sometimes obliged to take in people with flimsy cherges, only to build stronger cases against them.
We should have faith in our CTG and the judicial system. The worst that can happen to our nation is to go back to the “lawful” days of our so-called “democratic” past.

Tanoy calm down boy. You made two mistakes here. Neither 74# nor the 45# post is mine. DP blog allowed us to put pseudo name, which helped us to stay away from some people here. I would rather suggest you to create your own blog and restrict the people from putting any kind of pseudo name. But I can assure you that your blog will not be as popular as DP
S/H is the GOD Mother of corruption and should have got an extraordinary prize for that. To prove her extra curricular activities you need to wait as he present CTG is working on it. I myself is also longing for that moment. As I am not in the government at the moment neither am a lawyer it will not be possible for me to prove her innocence. All the BD news paper, her son and daughter’s way of living standard are my source of her corruption story. I know you are not convinced as you always like to think logically rather than emotionally. I appreciate your way of thinking.
Hasta La vista

There is none more corrupt than administrative cader officers than in the country. In the past AL & BNP government many of them worked just as a slave of political parties & earned ilegally a lot using their pen unfairly. Hasina & Khaleda are nothing compared to them. DDC must ask & check their wealth statements. However, there are few honest officers too for which still we sometimes see good faces & fair actions.
