An inspiring success story of a girl named Doly Akter, born and raised in a Dhaka slum tells how change is always more effective when it comes from within. Doly was born and lived against all odds amid the poorest of the world in one of many slums in Dhaka. Though she was more likely to fall victim to early marriage, abuse, health hazards and many other possible risks, she managed to rise above it towards getting education to secure a brighter future that many fortunate ones take for granted. Doly didn’t forget the community that harbored her and gave back through service to improve of health and education of her fellow residents. Perhaps, we need to turn our focus on ‘Dolys’ that are out there in hopeless communities all over Bangladesh and empower them to help their own communities to get out of the cycle of agony.

I respect my home grown solid leadership from my fellow sisters and all others who are involved with them.
This incident shows us that we are talented given the chance to show the talents. I have my full respect for women like Doly and others and hope we all can learn something from them.We should all support and inspire all the people like Doly’s all around the country to come out and show their skills and talents and make a better and a prosperous Bangladesh.
Together we can and we really can.
thanks

Goes only to show that when there is a will, there is a way– that some one can make a significant positive difference in other peoples’ lives, despite very limited resources. Makes me wonder how much more we could do if we cared a little less about a spacious house or a nice car.

She should be called the “Florence Nightingale” of Bangladesh.

This is a great story - makes the women of Bangladesh look so great. Makes my own achievements as an educated female in Dhaka pale in comparison - but still inspires me to do better for my society.

Yes I agree. This is extremely inspiring for people like us, who have had so many opportunities from life, but have given back little or nothing at all. Makes us humble and ashamed of ourselves.
