A murder that took place 18 months ago during the BNP rule. 34-year-old lawyer (CIDA) and human rights activist Papia was brutally murdered by her husband and sister-in-law. There was evidence and there were eyewitnesses. There was an arrest (the sister-in-law) but the main suspect was allowed to flee in full view of the police. Why? Because this man, this murderer Tuhin was friends (allegedly) with the Mayor of Barisal. I/O changed hands three times but investigation still goes on. Papia’s sister Kumkum’s fight for justice still goes on. She has reached out for help from the media and human rights organisations. In all of this Papia’s only child Shaptorshi (now 11) is being held hostage at the murderer’s house. She has seen more than her share of trauma, she needs to lead a ‘normal’ life that is not possible where she is now.

Hana Shams Ahmed,
Your article is to be fully appreciated because it is an “eye-opener” for adolescent girls of the new generation.Hopefully this will wisen them up to the fact that Love is Good but not collecting details of the person whom they r loving means suicide as this particular story indicates. I hope you will also have this published at Adhunikna blog too as thats mostly women/girls forum and they should be also informed.
It is my sincere hope that Dristipat and other human right bloggers will be able to take steps to draw the attention of CA and other concerned Authorities as was done for the case of Chales Richil.
My prayers for the departed soul of Papia and for Shaptorshi that God give her the strength to bear this tragic loss of the Mother and ability to put up with all traumatic conditions that she must be undergoing and through His Mercy she be given the justice and freedom and equally I pray for KumKum that God give her strength patience and guidance for winning the case.
If the case is successfully highlighted and granted permission for reopening it in the court then no doubt the opposing party Husband Tuhin and family will be fighting toosth and nail highlighting what you have indicated in your story that Papia had been suffering from Herpes and taking medicine- I do not have any idea about Herpes and hope that this will not be a draw-back in the case.Secondly I am sure Kumkum realises that to win the case sufficient proof is required and that will come from the witness and hopefully they will speak the truth.Thirdly there should be suffient proof on Kumkum’s side about the “drug abue”/addiction of the Husband and most of the family members as mentioned in yr article.
I have heard about Advocate Salma Ali being the best in winning cases for Justice for Women and Children- hopefully she can be approached.
Another trap for the girls of marriageable age is the Adverisements in Papers where persons specially rich but divorced male persons look for specially “dharmic and gentle” young girls who would find a very lucrative life–how many of us read the story of RED RIDING HOOD???– well becareful the ad smacks of the BIG BAD WOLF style.

Hey Phantom,
Thanks for your comment. I would just like to point out that the case has not been closed yet. The investigation is still going on. The accused party is just making the whole case hang in many ways in the hope that they will just forget the whole thing. There is enough evidence to send Tuhin to jail forever but some of the eyewitnesses were scared about the reprisal during the BNP government as Papia’s husband’s elder sister is good friends with the MP there. And I was asked not to write about two of the eyewitnesses. Right now rescuing Shaptorshi is as important as getting Tuhin convicted. Papia’s family think that this is the right time to get the case on the move, now that BNP is no longer in power and MP Sarwar cannot influence the case any more.

Hana,
Refyr#2- I will keep on praying for both Shaptorshi and Kumkum. From your clarification it seems that what now is needed is a good strong Lawyer- and Salma Ali appears to have the best record. Hopefully Dristipat Human Right bloggers will give the required support as mentioned in my #1. Advocate Sultana Kamal who was ex-Adviser of the first group of Advisers of the CTG would also be another person, who if convinced of the credibility of the case might be able to help greatly.
For me priority is to rescue Saptorshi and Tuhin can go to hell or be convicted- or atleast a court restraining order must be sought immediately which will keep Tuhin out of Saptorshi’s life until case is over OR until she is adult enough to decide her course of life. Thus Saptorshi will get sufficient time to have proper education and good environment needed for healthy growth.
We really dont know what she had seen or knows or what she was briefed on the incident by the Tuhin —so dont know if she will require the services of a Psychologist too considering the fact that she is 11 years old and this kind of trauma can severely affect her mental state. You have to make Kumkum aware of this too.
Lets hope for the best.I am deeply interested to learn about the final outcome of the case.Do keep us posted about the developments.

ASK is already following the case. But I don’t think anything is being done about Shaptorshi. I will go to their office today or tomorrow and find out if anything can be done.

Hana,
Its very sad that under the pathetic legal system none of the Law enforcers takes any intitiative to solve a case honestly according to its merit.Unless this case and there is a second case stated under topic “From Tower Hamlets to Zindabazar”-the sad plight of Nasreen- are high lighted and steps taken as in the case of C.R.the possibility of prolonging it or eventually corrupt practise makes for a favourable verdict for the Pedator/Murderer and the victim id denied JUSTICE.
In topic From Tower Hamlets to Zindabazar the comments of Kathyrn.B Ward there is a link which would be worth for you to see and use the Mobile number there for one stop crisis centre: 011-880-2-966-4699 and this is cell no: 011-880-118-22782-(check with the website by clicking on the link).
I wonder if ASK and BNWLA could join forces to win the cases.
Any way while we are waiting the outcome of the case its important that we using our writing skills to draw the attention of the new youngsters about the dangers of marriage that exists in the society and that means create awareness about Marriage system, the need for Antidowry system etc.
I wonder why you didnt contact Adhunika.com to have yr article posted there for discussion(thats a womens forum).I informed them via email Admin@Adhunika.org and have resent it today- they should also have this at their blog and try give advise or support to win the case.
Am also a bit surprised that Dristipat bloggers have not participated by voicing their comments and suggestions.
I hope that we will hear positive progressive reports soon.
