Modhupur atrocities - if you want to contribute
Posted by ZaFa under Ethnic Minority , Human Rights , campaignThose who have expressed desire to help out the Modhupur victims, you can send your donation through Drishtipat. Protap Jambil is the key witness, and surviving victim, of an inhumane incident that took the life of Garo leader Choles(h) Richil on March 18th, 2007. Currently Protap is either hiding in fear of further persecution by the superior powers.
As quoted from Hana Shams Ahmed’s article, Nightmare in Modhupur highlighting the event:
“Choles Ritchil, the father of five, was returning from a wedding in Mymensingh when the joint forces arrested him and three other men at Kalibari Bazar. That night his battered and bruised lifeless body was found at the premises of the Thana Health Complex. The police made up a story about how Choles lost consciousness after he fell while trying to escape from his arrestees. But there were telltale marks all over his body implying severe torture. There was very little area on his body that wasn’t black and blue. Cholesh’s three companions, Protap Jambil, Tuhin and Piren were also allegedly tortured by the joint forces. Protap, who sustained the severest of wounds was treated in Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.”

Can anyone tell me what is DP’s target in terms of number of signatures before the petition is handed over to the relevant authority?
My personal opinion is that the issue is fast losing tempo. Considering the recent developments taking place in Dhaka, in my opinion the letter should be handed over to the CG immediately before this issue becomes too old for the government to act on.
Also has anyone considered sending copy of the petition to the Advisor responsible for Forestry?
Cheers
