Saw in ATN Bangla, the aborodh so far is very peaceful. Lots of processions through out the city. Jonotar dhol as the reporter said. There are young kids with the face paint that says “Ajijja , tui barit ja”.
10 Jonotar moncho have been created where patriotic and gonoshangeets are being performed.
Three advisers met the CEC and met him for 45 minutes before reappearing in a glum face.
More of a concern is the following news.
There were two medical teams in Bongobhaban. Adviser Sufia who is a cardiologist has been in the bongo bhaban. Now this has been predicted for sometime now that there were grounds being prepared to have Speaker Jamiruddin Sarcar take over the governmnet. If the president is unable to perform the duty, his role will be taken over by the previous speaker automatically.
I would not be surprised if Mr. Jamiruddin Sarcar steps into the dual shoes of the President and the Chief Adviser.Good luck to the Advisers in dealing with Mr. Sarcar if they are finding it diffcult to convince Mr. Iajuddin of the need to take steps towards creating a level playing field for all the political parties in the upcoming elections.
Sircar’s take-over will be another clever move in BNP’s meticulous and muli-layered “election-engineering” strategy.
Further proof of their planning was revelaed by Justice Naimuddin Ahmed’s artilce on the New Age (19 November 2006) where he revealed that someone from Bangabhadan had called him on 27 October 2006 and wanted to know whether the President was required to subscribe to the oath prescribed for the Chief Adviser of the non-party caretaker government, if he assumed the functions of the Chief Adviser. Just goes to show the BNP had planned all this in detail.
I am hoping the general people of Bangladesh will see through the machinations and “people power” wins in the end.

Dhaka, Nov 20 (bdnews24.com) - A writ petition was filed Monday in the High Court challenging President Iajuddin Ahmed’s heading the caretaker government.
Barrister Masud Reza Sobhan, the lawyer for the petitioner, Monday told bdnews24.com that the chief adviser to the caretaker government could be questioned under what authority he was holding the Chief Adviser’s Office.
The petition argues that Iajuddin has assumed the Chief Adviser’s Office without exhausting the mandatory provisions of Articles 58 C (3), (4) and (5) of the constitution.
It also says the President did not “bother” to have any meaningful dialogue with all major political parties to find a qualified person to be the chief adviser. In an unusual haste, he appointed himself as the CA, which invoked suspicion about his neutrality, it added.
It is apparent that his appointment not only violates the constitutional provisions, but also calls his neutrality into question since a political party elected him to the presidency, the petitioner says.
CA and Prez Iajuddin’s son Imtiaj Ahmed (29) and his wife Kaniz Fatema (24) are about to be approved for 14 crores and 47 lakhs of taka under special provision from government run Sonali Bank. Reportedly the loan sanction process had been coordinated by CBA’s B M Bakir Hossain.
Imtiaj and Kaniz applied for a total of 16 crores and 8 lakhs taka loan in May 2006 to establish a knit-ware factory in Bhaluka, Mymensing to be named Dhaka Knit Garments Limited. Imtiaj and Kaniz are to own 54% and 36% shares in this project. Earlier the board had rejected the application on different levels. The bank employees complained that there had been mounting pressure to sanction the loan.
More senseless deaths:
In Potia, Chittagong, clashes broke out between BNP activists and LDP supporters who wanted to denounce the new party today. At one point a Jeep carrying LDP supporters drove through the BNP procession, killing two people. Both BNP and LDP claimed the deceased were their supporters.
Latest Updates:
*Aziz agrees to go on 90-day leave, but doesn’t say when
*Awami League-led 14-party alliance will not accept any reconstitution of the Election Commission (EC) by keeping the three “controversial” election commissioners and making one of them the acting chief
