Announcing the First Round Results
The DP 20K Challenge Team would like to thank all of the folks who submitted proposals for evaluation. We were impressed with the number and quality of the proposals that were submitted on such short notice. After carefully evaluating all the proposals we used a collaborative ‘ranking’ method to try and come to a consensus view as to which ones can be moved to the final round. In the interest of transparency, we have decided to make the detailed results available to all who are interested. The results can be viewed at the following link (lowest average score is best):
While we would like to fund as many of the proposals as possible, we are limited by the amount of funds available to us, which is $20,000. We will seek more detailed information from each of the leading projects to determine which ones, in the opinion of the DP 20K Challenge Team, best reflect the goals that we set out. The project sponsors of the top ten ranked projects (and perhaps a few more) should expect to be contacted soon for additional information.

This is really cool! And I love the subtle use of shades of green in the spreadsheet. What’s with the one yellow cell, though?

[ok, ok! I did the spreadsheet and the color thing! Just got tired of waiting for people to comment and decided to get things started!]

Well now that you mention it, I don’t understand the correlation between the average score and the ranking. The top ranked one seems to have a much lower score than the next two. Also, is there a way to change the google settings so people don’t have to log into a google account to view the file? There may be a setting you can toggle to make it so that anyone can view. (unless there’s a reason not to do it). Also, would be nice to have a short description of the project.
I applaud the transparency of the process.

We apologize … the blog posting failed to include the last edits that indicated that lowest is best! The DP Judges ranked the proposals relative to each other and the scores for each judge show how she/he ranked each proposal. Hope this helps!

Yes, Naeem we promote transparency, especially now that election season is approaching. …LOL
We can guarantee you there were no “vote karchupi”.
The average came from a ranking system. The judged ranked all 30+ proposals (considering factors like sustainability, scalability, benefits…etc.). The average score is the average of the ranks.
Yes, the top one was a run-away winner. Majority of the judges ranked it as #1 (explaining the low score).
Short description of the proposals that made it to the second (and final) round will be available in the DP_20K page.

It actually works sort of like the college football BCS rankings….but hopefully this will be easier to understand.

It says Shoishob came on top, but not many readers (incl me) know what it’s about. Could the judges put up a short summary of the top 3 or top 5 projects?

We plan to do that soon. We are all ‘volunteers’ and are doing our best to juggle multiple tasks. Thank you for your patience.
