New Age vs Daily Star

Filed under: Bangla Diaspora — Asif @ 12:48 pm

So I have started writing for New Age. Honestly speaking, New Age’s content (barring op-ed) is far better than the Daily Star. This time when I went to Bangladesh, I was given 7 days worth of New Age by Almer, its deputy editor, and I went through them and I was very very impressed. New Age had a decidedly young flavour to it. The international and business section was much more global. But I will have to say though the op-ed and point-counterpoint section is what moves DS ahead of New Age. Good to see healthy competition though.

Anyway, I did a formaishi lekha for them for the slate magazine covering the Bangla beat concert.

This will be interesting for the music lovers. (scroll to the bottom)

More interestingly, I will start to write up on a regular basis for their op-ed page. This will give me a reason to sit to write on a regular basis. :)
Ahh…here is a toast to my becoming an arm-chair columnist from an activist. Yes, yes… I will provide prescription to all of Bangladesh’s problems sitting million miles away from it. NOT. My article will be nothing like the guy who writes from Princeton in DS. I will focus mostly on diaspora Bangalis which I am part of.
I know the general perception about New Age. But it may be worth giving them a second look under the new editor.
