Chief of banned extremist group arrested in Bangladesh
(Comtex Community Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)DHAKA, 1 March, 2006 (Xinhua via COMTEX) — Bangladesh’s Islamic extremist group
Jamaatul Mujahidden Bangladesh (JMB) chief Shaikh Abdur Rahman, blamed for strings of bomb blasts and suicide attacks that killed
28 people, was arrested Wednesday from northeastern Sylhet town, 344 km from Dhaka.
Nine members of his family, including his wife, sons, daughters
and grand sons and daughters were also arrested from the house
after a commando-style attack at the house, according to
television live broadcast of the security forces’ raid.
The chief of the banned JMB has been on the run since series of
bomb blasts across the country almost simultaneously, killing
three people and injuring 150 others on August 17, 2005.
The Bangladeshi government late last year announced a prize
money of 10 million taka (about 140,000 U.S. dollars) for his
arrest.
However, different reuter’s report claims that he is still inside.

I waited, waited and waited. From the morning to mid night…almost 24 hours…..Nobody cared. Nobody discussed. Nobody wrote here…

Just to clarify - Shaikh Abdur Rahman has been arrested, not Bangla bhai.

Perhaps, it’s time we didn’t refer to this person as Bangla bhai. He isn’t to me. Banglar shothru sounds better.

OOPS - we got the headline wrong. That headline was for the capture of JMB chief Shaikh Abdur Rahman. Bangla Bhai (Siddiqul Islam,)was actually captured today. BBC headline & website line is noted below:
Top Islamic militant ‘arrested’
The JMB has been blamed for a number of bombings
Security officials in Bangladesh say they have arrested a top Islamic militant leader after a gun battle in a northern district.
Siddiqul Islam, alias Bangla Bhai, of the outlawed Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen (JMB) was captured at his hideout in Mymensingh district, the police said.
