Technology can be used to improve the tools or provide news tools to those that are poor to increase their income e.g. the pumps in the farms depend on diesel and the price of oil hurts the farmers. If you can use other ways to extract water without using diesel, you have just increased the ability for someone to generate more income. You can design a better rickshaw so it takes less effort for them to ride it. However, these technologies need to homegrown.
