1971
The gallery titled 1971 are images of women taken right after
the war by famous photographer Jason Laure`. Jason came to Bangladesh
from Calcutta with some refugee families to capture their return
in his lense. He stayed in Bangladesh for four months and later
came back to follow up on some stories which he later covered
in his book "Joy Bangla - The Children of Bangladesh".
Jason also later did a photo feature on it on the 1st issue
of MS magazine. After being contacted by Drishtipat, Jason contributed
the following images for the project.

The second gallery on the other hand was created for a project
by famous activist, journalist and historian Afsan Choudhury.
Afsan documented the oral history of the affected women of 1971
almost 30 years after the war. Although some of these images
are of despair and betrayal, over the years these women have
fought hard for economic survival. While for most, war ended
in 1971, for these women, however, rest of their lives became
a war for survival and recognition. So in all essence, the images
of these amazing women are also images of courage, hope and
determination. |
